Fireline Fishing and Captain Caylin Burrell can be found all over eastern North Carolina. From the Roanoke River and Albemarle Sound chasing striped bass in the spring, to the Pamlico River and Sound pursuing trout and redfish in the summer, and finally to the Neuse River targeting the giant old red drum in the fall.
Once the air turns cold and the ducks begin to move in, Fireline Fishing switches gears to pursue some of the finest waterfowl hunting North Carolina has to offer.
This style of hunting is something you must experience to fully understand, conducted in an open-water rig native to North Carolina known as a scissor rig. A scissor rig is a structure made from juniper wood, a naturally buoyant material that has been used for hundreds of years to build ships and boats. It rides atop the gunnels of the boat and, upon reaching the hunting grounds, is deployed into the water. Pines are pegged into holes along the sides, creating a corral that holds and hides the boat from which the hunters shoot. Because it is independent of the boat, the vessel can be driven in and out to set decoys or retrieve birds.

– At Fireline Fishing, the only experiences that require a license are our Striped Bass trips and duck hunts. For all other experiences, our umbrella vessel license covers you, and no additional licenses are needed.
Fishing for Striped Bass in North Carolina’s Roanoke River:
– To fish for striped bass, you’ll need a valid North Carolina freshwater fishing license, which can be purchased online at www.ncwildlife.org.
Additional guidelines for striped bass fishing:
– Daily creel limit: 4 fish per person
– Minimum size limit: 20 inches

– To hunt ducks, you must have the following licenses, permits, stamps, and certifications:

North Carolina Waterfowl Privilege:
– This is an additional requirement and fee, separate from your hunting license, unless you have a Sportsman’s or Comprehensive Hunting license.
Federal Duck Stamp:
– Required for hunting all waterfowl. The electronic Federal Duck Stamp costs $29.
HIP (Harvest Information Program) Certification:
– This free certification is required for each state you hunt. Non-resident hunters certified in another state must also be certified in North Carolina.
